If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with cancer, and would like to look at natural options instead of, or along with, conventional ones, I would suggest reading the book: Healing Cancer from Inside Out, by Mike Anderson. In his book and film of the same name, Mike gives a summary and his interpretation of what he has discovered over the years about healing cancer with diet. It is based on scientific and practitioner knowledge. It is his hope that this book will enable those with cancer (and in my own opinion, just about any other "dis-ease"), to make their own treatment decisions based on all the facts. pg 60 -We currently have an epidemic of immune system impairment, which accounts for many of the diseases we are suffering from, especially cancers. In fact, we've become so used to a suppressed immune system we mow think that getting colds, flues and cancers on a regular basis is normal. pg 56 -Rebuilding the Immune System The most important thing most people have to realize is not that we "get" cancer - because we get cancer every single day of our adult lives - but whether we "keep" and "grow" cancer due to: 1) a weakened immune system and 2) a body that allows cancer cells to thrive. It's been estimated that at least 20 percent of Americans are clinically malnourished, with 70 percent being sub-clinically malnourished. What this means is that the vast majority of Americans are eating too much bad food and not enough good food. We're overfed, yet undernourished. Insofar as cancer is concerned, poor nutrition will impair your immune system. How can you tell if your immune system is impaired? A sure indication is if you catch colds, flues or other similar ailments. If your immune system is functioning properly, you should never, or very rarely, catch these illnesses. If, because of poor eating habits, you contract a cold and eventually die of pneumonia, your diagnosis will be pneumonia, not malnutrition. And, chances are, your doctor will have treated you only for pneumonia, not malnutrition. In other words, malnutrition is very common, yet hardly ever recognized as the reason behind an illness. The Western diet, which is so rich and seemingly varied, is in fact severely dificient in the foods that can prevent and reverse cancer. Malnourishment in Western countries is the result, primarily, of not getting enough micronutrients in the diet: the vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and antioxidants that are so abundant in plant foods. Each and every immune cell in your body is made from the food you eat and your army of immune cells will grow and become strong only if it has a good supply of micronutrients; and, conversely, it will weaken with a bad supply. For years Japan had the highest per capita consumption of cigarettes, yet the lowest rate of lung cancer in the world, because Japanese smokers had strong immune systems due to their low-fat, plant-based diet. Of course, now that the Japanese diet is becoming westernized, they are compromising their immune systems with a lousy diet and lung cancer is on the rise.
